NIRON FIBER INSTALLED IN MILAN

NIRON FIBER SDR 17 installed in Torre UNIPOL SAI building in Milan for the groundwater geo-exchange system. The building will be powered by an open loop groundwater condensing system which will be the energy source of the multipurpose heat pumps installed for summer air-conditioning and winter heating of the complex. The use of this energy source for the condensation and evaporation of the refrigerant fluid of the heat pumps will increase on the one hand the summer efficiency and the winter performance of the machines themselves and, on the other hand, will allow the reduction of emissions related to the air-conditioning of the rooms. The groundwater is taken directly from the extraction wells that draw from the surface groundwater. It is then sent to the heat pumps, where the heat exchange takes place and returned to the source. Here it is hosted in re-insertion wells of the surface channel type positioned downstream of the water table direction. Here, a high concentration of ferrobacteria, aerobic microorganisms that obtain carbon from carbon dioxide and derive energy for their sustenance from the oxidation of iron, has been found in the surface aquifers. These bacteria accelerate the reaction that occurs naturally between oxygen and ferrous ions present in the water, or on the surface of metal pipes, and increase the presence of ferrous precipitate (ferric hydroxide) in the water. This causes the presence of a strong fouling of the metal pipes with consequent occlusion of the filters and loss of efficiency of the system. For this reason, NIRON FIBER polypropylene system with high chemical inertness and low linear thermal expansion was used for the fluid vectorization, which allows the conveyance of the liquid while maintaining the performance required by the project with minimum pressure drops in favor of maximum efficiency of pumping systems.
