The new logistics platform of the company LIDL - the German world-known food retail company - in Spain has been recently built in Alcala de Henares with an investment of 70 million euros. It is the tenth in Spain and has a floor area of 71,800 square meters, thus becoming LIDL largest logistics facility in Europe. NIRON PPR System by NUPI Industrie Italiane was selected for the plumbing system of this new platform. The project focused on sustainability and efficiency and considering that the basis of an efficient installation is to avoid the waste of energy throughout production and distribution, the NIRON system was considered as the best choice as it allows to optimize the installation with the resulting increase in energy efficiency thanks to the raw material used. In this case, a new pipe - NIRON BLUE FIBER PP-R RP made of polypropylene PPR125 with an inner fiberglass layer was used. Its low roughness and low thermal conductivity allows a reduction of energy consumption in pumping systems and of thermal losses in the distribution, thus optimizing the system performance. The new center will begin service in summer 2016 and was built according to the rules established for obtaining BREEAM and VERDE sustainability certifications, the latter granted by Spain Green Building Council (GBCe). Energy efficiency criteria and the combination of the latest technology and sustainability will make this new plant a reference center for green architecture.
