NUPI POLYETHYLENE PIPES FOR REINFORCEMENT OF A DAM IN THE NETHERLANDS

NUPI polyethylene pipes Ø1000 mm (40"), 800 mm (32"), 710 mm (28"), 630 mm (24") SDR11 have been installed to reinforce Grubbenvorst dam, in the municipality of Horst aan de Maas in the Netherlands to protect residents, factories and infrastructures from an increase in the amount of water in the Meuse river. The exisiting dam in fact does not meet safety standards of 1 in 250. This means that it could not withstand a flood that can occur once every 250 years. After the floods of 1993 and 1995, emergency dams were built in a short time in 1996. At that time, it was thought that further expansion measures of the Meuse would not have been necessary. Today, however, the plans have changed and it was necessary to expand the dam to avoid damage to neighboring towns in the event of a major flood, a rare but not impossible event.
